The La Porte High School Marching Band had their first competition at Goshen on Saturday, September 9th.

The band has been practicing for this competition for months. They have been working significantly long hours during the summer and after school, polishing up on their new music, and putting the finishing touches on their overall performance.

“Band camp is when you get the tough rehearsals. It’s long hours, 8-5, outside in the sun all day. You’re just exhausted because you’re working for four hours at a time,” Christian Ferrara, senior LPMB member, said.

This year’s theme is darker than in the past, highlighting some of the best “Monsters of Broadway” such as, Frankenstein – A New Musical, Phantom of the Opera, and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

LPMB competed against Chesterton, Concord, Carroll, and Penn. They placed fifth overall with a score of 55. Although they lost, there are many competitions to come and LPMB are confident that they will be better the next time around. Everyone’s spirits are high.

“Competition season is always the best part. It’s when all the rehearsals give you feedback and it’s a fun way to do it, because you get to perform,” Ferrara said.

La Porte Marching Band has been putting their all into their performances. They will continue to expand their performance methods and work even harder to make this year count.
