Alyssa Foster: Sectional and Regional bowling champion

La Porte High School junior Alyssa Foster won bowling Sectionals with a score of 186 on January 13th, and also won Regionals with a score of 156 on January 20th, becoming only the second ever Sectional champion and first ever Regional Champion for LPHS.

Foster has been on the LPHS bowling team since seventh grade, but she has actually been bowling since she was four years old.

“Ever since my mom put me in a Saturday morning league, I’ve loved it. My older cousin has been a big part of my bowling and has helped me get better and love the sport more,” Foster said.

At Sectionals, all bowlers bowl three games, and all of those scores are then added together. After that, top 10 girls and the top 11 boys advanced to Regionals, held in Kokomo, Indiana.

The LPHS bowling teams did fairly well, with the girls team placing 4th and the boys team placing 5th. Neither teams advanced to Regionals, Regionals. Foster beat three girls, each ranging from high schools like Michigan City, Chesterton, and Portage.

“I’m really proud of our girls team for all of the work they’ve put in over the season. Even when things aren’t going how we want them, we’re all so supportive of each other, and we’ve all grown so much. I’m also really appreciative of my mom and coaches for all of the support they’ve always given me. The look on their faces after winning made all of the hard work worth it,” Foster said.

At Regionals, which was on January 20th,  Foster bowled three games and had a winning score of 156. The top nine bowlers from Regionals, which includes Foster, advanced to Semi-State.

“My proudest moment was definitely winning 2018 Sectionals and Regionals. I’ve advanced through many tournaments and have won other team tournaments, but winning as an individual is a whole other feeling,” Foster said.

Senior male Cordell Moyer also placed in Regionals and is advancing to Semi-State, which will be held on January 27th in Lafayette.

LPHS wishes both Foster and Moyer luck at Semi-State this upcoming Saturday.
