Coffee and Canvas at LPHS

LPHS’s Coloring Club will be hosting its second year of a fun and engaging event called “Coffee and Canvas.”

This year’s event will be held on Tuesday, March 27th, right after school in room J.16. The cost, which covers everything like paint, brushes, and a canvas, is only $30. This can also be paid on the day of the event via cash, check, or to the instructor’s paypal account.

Coffee and Canvas was adapted from the original Wine and Canvas event, due to obvious reasons, so people of all ages can enjoy learning how to paint beautiful works of art. Even having little to no experience, a person can follow along step-by-step with the certified instructor, Susan Young, to create a unique painting while also enjoying snacks. This event was brought to LPHS by english teacher, Mrs. Lute-Brown, who also sponsors Coloring Club.

“I have always been interested in art, but in the past couple of years since I have been doing coloring pages, I have really felt more of a connection to it.  I wanted to have those who love art, but who may not have had a lot of exposure to it, or much of a chance to do it, to be able to try it out in a supportive atmosphere. Last year’s went great!  We had about 25 people (both staff and students), and a mix of those who were more experienced artists and those who just hadn’t done it very much.  But we all got along, it felt relaxed, and I really enjoyed it.  I hope others did, too!  I am hoping that this year’s will go just as well,” Lute-Brown said.

Many people tend to shy away from creative events, such as this one, but a student or person can never know what they are capable of if they never try. At last year’s event, many students and staff had never even painted before. Even so, each painting turned out to be one of a kind.

“I’ve done several Wine and Canvas events and I am definitely doing it this year! I even planned play rehearsals around it so I wouldn’t have to miss it. I had a blast last year and intend to have just as much fun this year,” Miss Baugh, LPHS English teacher, said.

As the spots are filling up fast, stop by room J.18, and talk to Mrs. Lute-Brown about reserving a spot for this 2018 Coffee and Canvas event at LPHS.
