Starting in the 2019-2020 year, the new La Porte Community School Corporation Intermediate School campus is set to open!

The push for the establishment of the intermediate building was to give the seventh and eighth graders more opportunity and the resources to discover new interests. They’re getting the chance to enroll in classes never offered before, even earning high school credits.

The addition of the new intermediate school is meant to give the seventh and eighth graders the tools to get them on their career pathway.

“These opportunities will link with the high school career pathways for graduation and allow students to explore many options before attending high school,” Mrs. Carter, Boston Middle School principal, said.

Though there are several classes geared towards preparing for high school, there will also be resources offered for students who need extra help. There will be lab classes offered for students needing additional assistance in Reading/ELA and Math.

Along with all the great new additions to the curriculum, there are classes students have not been offered to students in the past that are career based. Some included are Medical Detectives, Automation and Robotics, 2D and 3D Art, and so much more! These elective courses are a fun escape from their normal academic classes.

In addition to the wide range of electives, Spanish is also going to be offered. The only prerequisites that students need to partake in this course are to have a “B” or better in ELA.

“Semester two of high school Spanish will be offered to those same students in their 8th-grade year and upon successful completion, they will receive high school credit,” Carter said.

Students will be able to sign up for these electives using their school-issued Chromebooks along with the help from counselors.
