LPMB places 3rd at Concord Invitational

LPMB placed 3rd in the Scholastic A Class competition hosted by Concord High School on September 21st.

Their show title, “Vegas!” is an upbeat arrangement of a few different songs. The opener of the show is, “Viva Las Vegas,” which is a well known Elvis Presley tune. The opener is followed up by “Luck Be a Lady,” a Frank Sinatra piece, and the closer of the show is a mashup of “Strangers in the Night” and “My Way,” which are also Sinatra’s songs.

The band has been working hard since June–learning their positions on the field, memorizing music, but as always, ending up on top isn’t the most important thing to the band.

The La Porte High School Marching Band works hard, not only to hopefully win State, but they are working to perform their show to the best of their ability.

“If we do it [join marching band] just to get first, then it doesn’t mean nearly as much when we perform,” Isaac King, senior bass clarinet player, said.

The LPMB is used to bringing home the 1st place trophies, but this competition was focused on performing as a group, rather than the score at the end of the night.

“Our first show went very well. The first show is about trying to perform and not just survive. The score for me never really matters, but certainly the first show,” band director Matt Sullivan said. “We only performed about 4 1/2 of an 8 minute show. The scores will change as we add more and perform more. I thought it was a solid start and am looking forward to a large leap this weekend.”

The band will perform the entire show on Saturday, September 28th around 6:04 EST at Penn High School.
