Every January, people tend to find themselves bundled up looking for the best show to pass the cold winter. In no particular order, here is a list of, in my opinion, five binge-worthy shows on Netflix right now.
#5 BoJack Horseman (2014)
Despite having six seasons, BoJack Horseman has remained relevant and popular among young adults and up since its release on August 22, 2014. Part one of season six premiered last October, and part two will be released on January 31st. Since this show is finally meeting its end with this last season, what better time to freshen up viewers’ memory of the comedy?
BoJack Horseman follows a failed 90s sitcom star in Hollywood ready for redemption in the world of fame. Through trials and tribulations, BoJack is faced with self-loathing thoughts and midlife crises.
The series has one of the highest Rotten Tomatoes ratings on Netflix at 93% and an audience score of 95%.
#4 Dracula (2019)
For horror lovers, this three episode series about the Count Dracula legend is a must-watch. Released on January 4th, this show isn’t afraid to transform the original narrative. While still having nods to the legend, Dracula adds emotional elements to this famous vampire story. It shows that even villains have moments of vulnerability without underplaying the gory yet classic vampire’s crimes.
Dracula’s fun yet fearful elements safely secured a high Rotten Tomatoes rating of 73%.
#3 The Witcher (2019)
Season one of The Witcher premiered on December 20th. This science fiction and fantasy story unwraps a world of monsters and monster-hunters. The series absorbs the viewer in a story of journeys towards destinies and lessons that people are sometimes much more worthy of fear than monsters.
This charismatic and exciting tale received a 66% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 93% audience score.
#2 The Healing Powers of Dude (2020)
The first season of this heartwarming series was released on January 13th. The show follows an 11-year-old boy that has a social anxiety disorder. Viewers can watch as the boy perseveres his way through new environments such as the horrors of middle school. This is the perfect pick for dog lovers as the main character finds comfort in a dog named Dude.
The series offers many uplifting tones such as representation, likable characters, and content that is easy to relate to.
Although not yet having an official Rotten Tomatoes critics consensus, The Healing Powers of Dude received a 93% audience score.
#1 You (2018)
This hit Netflix series recently released its second season on December 26th and gained immediate praise. You is a drama that follows a young man who knows no ends when it comes to love. Despite his constant pleas of sanity, it is clear that Joe Goldberg, the main character, is anything but sane.
The likability of the characters in this show might have viewers second-guessing their own morals. That is one of the main things that makes You so easy to dive into: its interactiveness and depth.
You will have its viewers on the edge of their seats from start to end. There is not a single dull moment in this ongoing show. With a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes and an 81% audience score, it is clear that You is the most anticipated and popular Netflix series out currently.
