Senior forward Garrott Ott-Large has added another accolade to his career, reaching 1000 career points for LP boys’ basketball.

On February 6th, Ott-Large hit a three pointer in the 3rd quarter to earn his 1000th career point. He would go on to score 29 points in that game, an 82-66 loss to Valparaiso.

“It was a great feeling,” Ott-Large said. “And to be one of 11 players to ever reach 1000 points at LaPorte means a lot to me.”

This milestone was a goal for Ott-Large as when he entered LaPorte High School as a freshman. His path to reach this mark has been impacted by not only his teammates, but also his family and coaches.

“I want to thank my coaches, teammates, friends, and family for everything they have done for me,” Ott-Large said, “because without them, it wouldn’t have been possible.”

Ott-Large joins an exclusive list of players who have reached this milestone, including Slicer basketball legends like Greg Tonagel, Steve Drabyn, and Slicers all-time leading scorer Bob Wilkinson.

“Knowing the history of Slicer basketball and all the great players that have played here, it is an honor to be a part of such an exclusive group,” Ott-Large said.

With the season winding down, and the Sectional being played at Slicer Gym, many seniors are getting amped up to perform well in what could be their final game as a Slicer. Despite coming up short in their last game, Ott-Large is having a positive outlook on the end of his senior season.

“I know I don’t have a lot of time left, but I’m still looking to have more fun and to make more memories with my team,” Ott-Large said.

Ott-Large plans to continue his basketball career in college, looking to become a physical therapist. He would also like to minor in business.

The Slicers next game will be played on Wednesday, March 4th, against archrival Michigan City at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $8 for a single game and $10 for the entire Sectional.
