Keeping kids warm one hat at a time
The LPHS Fashion & Textiles class is making hats to give to elementary school kids who are in need of warm clothes for the winter.
The class does a seasonal project every year. Instead of doing ornaments like they normally do, they decided to sew fabric and make hats for the elementary school kids, using the skills they’ve learned for good.
Fashion & Textiles teacher Lindsey Pritchard purchased the fleece herself along with one donation. She wanted her students to know they could make a difference.
“I believe it is important for students to know that they can use their sewing skills to help others. Doing things like this can make a big impact on communities,” Pritchard said.
Along with each student making one hat, they are also making one to take home for themselves.
“My favorite part of making the hats was getting to choose the fabric and the type of design I wanted to sew,” student Cassey Brault said.
The hats are being donated to the elementary schools at the end of the week.
