After the long lost season and one of uncertainty at that, during the last school year, this year’s Slicer Baseball team is ready to take on the season with their heads held high. After ending last season with a record of 23-7, this year’s team is ready to take on the season and bring home a win. One can see this year’s schedule on the LaPorte Slicer Athletic page.

Head Coach

Name- Coach Scott Upp
How long you played- I played 4 years at LPHS, 4 years at Missouri State University, and another 5-6 years in what they called a semi-pro league in NW Indiana (basically guys who wanted to continue playing after college).
Why you coach- I started coaching in the spring of 1991 here at LPHS (JV assistant). In 1992, I was the varsity assistant at Andrean High School. In the spring of 1993, I came back to LaPorte as an assistant coach until halfway through the 1998 season when I took over as the head coach here at LPHS.

Head Assistant Coach

Name- Coach Rob Schellinger
How long you played- From T-ball through college
Why you coach- Coaching is a way to stay in the game and witness others enjoy success
How long have you been coaching- 19th year

Biggest goal for your team this season- Play as close to our abilities as possible with a team first mentality

Assistant Coach

Name- Coach Kupp (Kevin Upp)
How long you played- Close to 20 years
Why you coach- I enjoy teaching the game that I love to kids who go to the same high school that I did and seeing LaPorte have success.
How long have you been coaching- This will be my seventh year.

Biggest goal for your team this season- To get better every day in some way, whether that be physically or mentally

Pitching Coach

Name- Coach Jeff DeMass
How long you played- 13 years
Why you coach- To further my love for the game, and to help young athletes achieve their goals
How long have you been coaching- 11 years

Biggest goal for your team this season- I have some pretty lofty goals, but I would say win the conference.

Varsity
