LPHS is kicking off a new year, which means new teachers. After many retirements and departures, the administration worked hard over the summer to fill open roles in multiple departments across the school. It is exciting to see former Slicer students as educators.

Please welcome these fresh faces.

Mrs. Beck 

Teaches: ELA 9 and 10, AP Lit & Comp

College Attended: Purdue University

Favorite part about being a Slicer: The school colors and the unique nickname–Slicers!

Fun Fact: I’ve lived on three different continents. 

Favorite subject in school: Anatomy & Physiology

Favorite thing to do: Snow ski 

 

 

Mr. Dermody

Teaches: U.S. History and Government

College Attended: Wabash College

Favorite part about being a Slicer: Having the opportunity to give back to my hometown community

Fun Fact: I am an avid Raiders fan. 

Favorite subject in school: Psychology/History

Favorite thing to do: Golf

 

 

 

Mr. Eldridge

Teaches: P.E.

College Attended: Indiana University

Favorite part about being a Slicer: It means you live in La Porte, which is the best city on Earth

Fun Fact: I can clap my hands louder than any other human being 

Favorite subject in school: P.E.

Favorite thing to do: Golf

 

 

Mr. Eldridge 

Teaches: Principles of Construction

College Attended: Valparaiso University

Favorite part about being a Slicer: Too early to tell

Fun Fact: I have five kids, and I also have a private pilot’s license.

Favorite subject in school: History

Favorite thing to do: Golfing, going to concerts, traveling, and being around the kids and grandkids.

 

 

 

Mrs. Hanson 

Teaches: Family and Consumer Science

College Attended: Purdue and U.N.L.V.

Favorite part about being a Slicer: Being close to home 

Fun Fact: I used to be a professional costume designer for theatre.

Favorite subject in school: Home Economics 

Favorite thing to do: Hike in the woods

 

 

 

Ms. Hernandez

Teaches: Math–Algebra 1 and Honors Geometry

College Attended:  Undergrad: Indiana / Grad: Indiana Wesleyan

Favorite part about being a Slicer: My favorite part is being here. 

Fun Fact: I learned my alphabet backwards when I first learned my ABCs. I almost didn’t pass kindergarten because I couldn’t say them forwards. I can still say them backwards today. 

Favorite subject in school: Math

Favorite thing to do: Being with my son 

 

 

Ms. Hughes 

Teaches: Principles of Healthcare 

College Attended: Indiana University–South Bend 

Favorite part about being a Slicer: My favorite part about being a Slicer is the school spirit. I love Black and Orange Fridays!

Fun Fact: I’ve had two surgeries this year. 

Favorite subject in school: History

Favorite thing to do: Host a game night or read a book

 

 

Mr. Hutson

Teaches: PLTW Engineering 

College Attended: Purdue University

Favorite part about being a Slicer: Becoming part of the impressive Slicer tradition 

Fun Fact: I enjoy learning new things. I am currently working on the banjo.

Favorite subject in school: Science

Favorite thing to do: Hiking

 

 

 

Mr. Lake 

Teaches: English, Debate, Writing 

College Attended: UIC, National-Louis, and Walden

Favorite part about being a Slicer: The strong school spirit and enthusiastic community

Fun Fact: I have visited 26 countries.

Favorite thing to do: Spend time with my family 

 

 

 

Miss McGuire 

Teaches: Geography and World History

College they went to: Valparaiso University

Favorite part about being a Slicer: I was a student at LPHS! I love the sense of community here.

Fun Fact about them: I did color guard and debate while I was a student here.

Favorite subject in school: History

Favorite thing to do: I like to watch true crime shows in my free time. 

 

 

Ms. Paquette

Teaches: Agriculture

College Attended: SUNY Cobleskill

Favorite part about being a Slicer:  The welcoming & nice community

Fun Fact: I was raised on a dairy cow farm.

Favorite subject in school: Science 

Favorite thing to do:  I love being outside!

 

 

Ms. Santana

Teaches: Earth/Space Science

College Attended: Wright State University

Favorite part about being a Slicer: I was a student here, so I am just excited to be able to come back and be on the other side of things. 

Fun Fact: I coach volleyball here.

Favorite thing to do: Hangout with family and friends

 

 

Mr. Schellinger

Teaches: Business Management

College Attended: Benedictine University

Favorite part about being a Slicer: The Slicer Pride that everyone in this community has.

Fun Fact: I stay busy coaching football and baseball.

Mr. Seaburg

Teaches: Math

Favorite part about being a Slicer: Football 

Fun Fact: I have a twin brother.

Mr. Steder

Teaches: World History & Civilization and Ethnic Studies 

College Attended: Indiana University–South Bend

Favorite part about being a Slicer: My favorite part about being a Slicer is being part of a community that cares about the people within it.

Fun Fact: I ran track and played football here at the high school, and I have been coaching track and cross country for the high school for the past four years!

Favorite thing to do: Nerd out on track and field!

 

 

 

Mrs. Toth

Teaches: English 10 & Advanced Composition 

College Attended: Valparaiso University & Purdue North Central 

Favorite part about being a Slicer: The support and camaraderie of my department 

Fun Fact: I have gone skydiving twice.

Favorite subject in school: English 

Favorite thing to do: Go hiking with my husband and daughter 

 

 

 

Mr. Walborn

Teaches:  Strength and Conditioning 

College Attended: SUNY Cortland 

Favorite part about being a Slicer: Surrounded by a great staff 

Fun Fact: I am a big ’80s movie and music buff.
