Rinehart leads LPCSC special education
Dr. Tara Rinehart was hired as the new Assistant Superintendent of Special Education for LaPorte Community School Corporation this school year.
Rinehart heard about the job opening through connections when she began looking for a new job closer to her husband’s job in Crown Point. She went through an interview process, and ended up being chosen.
“I made it through the interview process and then was super excited to get here and really serve La Porte and be part of the team,” Rinehart said.
Rinehart has an impressive background. She earned her bachelor’s degree in special education at Arizona State University, her masters degree in educational administration at Butler University, her education specialist degree from Indiana State University, and a philosophy doctorate in educational administration. She also has extensive experience working within schools.
Rinehart fell in love with working in special education in high school when she was a cadet teacher at an elementary school in a special education. It was during that time her curiosity was sparked.
“I hadn’t really been in many situations with people with disabilities. I didn’t really know about them, and so I was just very curious about it. It’s just that idea that you can make such a difference as a teacher,” Rinehart said.
Rinehart has many aspirations to continue pushing the special education cooperative forward. Rinehart hopes to begin closing the divide between the stereotype around people with disabilities by educating others that a difference is not a negative thing.
“We are all unique learners, and so just because my difference is very different than your difference it is okay. It does not make me a bad person or a different person; it is just unique,” Rinehart said.
So far Rinehart has fallen in love with the La Porte community and appreciates how accepting and kind people are to her. She is ecstatic to be here and begin to share her voice and move forward with the program that services students across the entire county.
La Porte welcomes Dr. Rinehart to her new position, and the corporation is excited to see where she takes the program.
